General Questions
Are your scooters safe to ride?
The safety of electric scooters hinges significantly on the quality of their components, with particular emphasis on the battery. We exclusively collaborate with suppliers who uphold stringent product safety protocols. Our batteries are sourced from reputable manufacturers, including Korean companies such as LG and Samsung, or from Chinese cells that have undergone extensive testing and have demonstrated long-term reliability.
Each scooter possesses unique capabilities and constraints. We strongly advise familiarizing yourself with the user manual before operation and adopting a gradual approach to riding. Additionally, it is imperative to wear appropriate protective gear, including helmets, knee/elbow pads, and wrist guards, at all times.

Can I use a Scooter in the rain?
Our RX7 and RS5 scooters have an IP67 rating, which means they can safely be ridden in the rain. For our D4+ models, we now offer Aquaguard Pro—a DIY waterproofing kit that can help you achieve an IP67 rating for added protection.
To avoid damage, please refrain from leaving your scooter outdoors during heavy downpours, as excessive water exposure can be harmful. Additionally, never submerge the deck or wheels under water, as this can cause irreparable damage.
Do you offer a Military Discount?
We are pleased to extend a military discount as a token of appreciation for your service. Upon presentation of a valid active or retired military ID card, you will receive a discount code entitling you to $100 off your purchase from RoadRunner Scooters.
Kindly note that this discount cannot be applied to scooters already available at a discounted price. Should you require further clarification or assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.
How do I clean my scooter?
The RS5 and RX7 scooters come with an IP67 rating, allowing them to withstand water exposure, so using a hose for cleaning is perfectly acceptable. However, it’s important to avoid high-pressure water directly on the scooter to protect the seals and sensitive components.
For our D4+ models, we strongly recommend using a damp sponge or cloth with mild cleaners or dish soap for cleaning, as these scooters are not designed for water exposure. A toothbrush and scrub brush can effectively clean those hard-to-reach areas on all models
How to avoid flat tires
Flat tires may result from various factors. It is crucial to adhere to the following guidelines:
1. Tire Pressure: Maintain the air pressure within both scooter tires at all times. Refer to the specified PSI (pressure per square inch) value indicated on the sidewall of the tire. It is advisable to inflate the tires once the pressure drops to approximately 4 PSI below this specified value. For instance, if your tires have a recommended pressure of 50 PSI, refill them when they reach around 46 PSI.
2. Installation: When installing a new tube, ensure that it retains approximately 1 PSI of pressure. This helps the tube maintain its shape and prevents pinches or folds, which can lead to flats. Additionally, tighten the main hub bolts in a star pattern to distribute bolt torque evenly.
3. Hazards: If your tubes consistently suffer from flats, inspect the interior of the tire or rim for any sharp edges or objects. These may puncture the tubes and cause flats. Regular inspection and removal of such hazards are essential for preventing tire damage.
What is the maximum speed and range of my electric scooter?
Our performance estimates are derived from standardized tests that all scooter companies worldwide use to ensure consistency and reliability. Consequently, we adhere to these industry standards to provide you with realistic and comparable performance metrics.
For our evaluations, we use a scenario featuring a 130 lb rider on flat road conditions, riding at an average speed. Additionally, all tests are conducted with the scooter set to gear one and in single mode, which represents the most conservative settings available on the scooter. This approach ensures that our performance data reflects the safest and most energy-efficient operation, giving our customers clear expectations.

What do I need to know about the batteries?
Our lithium-ion battery packs, available in various sizes, typically exhibit a lifespan of 400-700 charging cycles. Over time, a natural decrease in riding range and maximum voltage occurs due to the inherent chemistry of these batteries, leading to diminished cell capacity.
For comprehensive insights into extending battery lifespan, please refer to the accompanying article.
Outlined below are fundamental tips:
1. Maintain an optimal temperature: Avoid exposing batteries to excessive heat during charging or operation. While lithium-ion batteries are more resilient in cold conditions compared to other types, extreme temperatures compromise their energy storage and release capabilities. We recommend storing your scooter within a temperature range of 50°F to 70°F for optimal performance.
2. Ensure adequate airflow: Proper ventilation is crucial for battery health, as it helps dissipate heat and maintain operational efficiency.
3. Prevent exposure to moisture: Avoid riding through puddles or snow, as moisture infiltration into the battery can cause damage. Please note that water-damaged scooters are not covered under our warranty guarantee.
4. Opt for slower charging: Particularly for smaller battery packs, a slower charging rate (such as with the standard 2A chargers provided) is preferable to preserve battery life.
5. Avoid overcharging: While our chargers feature automatic shutdown mechanisms upon reaching full charge, it's advisable to disconnect the charger from the scooter's charging port once charging is complete (indicated by a green light).
How do I know my battery is fully charged on my scooter?
Please refer to the table below to ascertain the maximum voltage for your scooter model. This figure should correspond to the value displayed on the left-hand side of your voltage lock when you turn your key.
It's imperative that this number aligns with the maximum output indicated on your charger. Should there be a discrepancy between these values, it's likely that you have the incorrect charger. Please inform us promptly if this is the case.
Should your charger indicate a green light but fail to reach a voltage within 2 points of the value specified for your charger, it may necessitate the acquisition of a new charger.
Voltage Percentage:
- 100% = 58.8V
- 90% = 57.12V
- 80% = 55.44V
- 70% = 53.76V
- 60% = 52.08V
- 50% = 50.4V
- 40% = 48.72V
- 30% = 47.04V
- 20% = 45.36V
- 10% = 43.68V

What is a steering damper and do I need one?
What is a steering damper on an electric scooter? A steering damper, also known as a steering stabilizer, is a device designed to reduce unwanted vibrations and oscillations in the handlebars of an electric scooter. It enhances stability and control by minimizing the impact of road irregularities and sudden movements on the scooter's steering.
Why do electric scooters need a steering damper? Electric scooters, like other two-wheeled vehicles, can be affected by factors such as road imperfections, wind gusts, and sudden maneuvers. A steering damper helps dampen these external forces, providing a smoother and more controlled riding experience.
How does a steering damper work? A steering damper operates by using hydraulic or mechanical means to absorb and dissipate excessive forces that can lead to unwanted handlebar movements. It acts as a buffer between the handlebars and the scooter's frame, reducing the impact of shocks and vibrations.
What are the benefits of having a steering damper on an electric scooter?
Improved Stability: Reduces wobbling and instability caused by road conditions or sudden maneuvers.
Enhanced Control: Minimizes handlebar kickback and promotes smoother steering response.
Increased Safety: Helps prevent speed wobbles and improves overall rider confidence.
Is it okay to hear a slight popping noise when I plug my charger into the port of my scooter.
All scooters can to this and it's perfectly normal when plugging into the battery. It's the current being connected.
